Get translated versions (by Google) for Google Review Widget please!

We would really find it helpful if the Google Review Widget could be setup so that one can choose which language to get on the reviews and from Google automatic translations. We are a Swedish ecommerce store and would like to show our reviews on our Danish, English and Finnish sites but as the majority of our customers are Swedish they will appear in Swedish on the other site and not the local language. Would be really great if one could setup the widget to that you can choose language to thow the reviews in (based on Google's automatic translations). Many thanks! / Anton Lindh at Sparv Accessories

    Hi Anton,

    Thank you for your comment!

We totally understand how crucial this option is for you and I assure you that we do bear it in mind.

Since our dev team is coping with an enormous range of tasks, they, unfortunately, really need time for developing a new feature.

I wish I could provide an ETA, however, I'm afraid everything depends on the devs' overall load.

But again, we do strive to release new features and make every effort to make it happen as soon as possible.

Thanks a lot for your understanding!

Hello! Just want to check in if you have any update on this one? Would be really nice to get this one implemented =) Here is how it looks on our Swedish site (please remember that 90% of our reviews are Swedish so thereby the current solution work OK for us now but when expanding geographically we would need to get "localized" google review widgets). Thanks / Anton

Thanks again Helga. Just want to clarify that Google is already automatically translating reviews into English (these are the ones we would like to pick, but in local language if possible). ANyhow thanks for looking into this! Would really be super beneficial for so many etailers out there

Thanks, I already translate my websites with WPML, using a translation agency. Only the reviews from the widget would need to be translated (and the have a mixed source language).

Hi Anton and JP and thank you ever so much for your contribution!

You've given us a lot of food for thought and we truly appreciate your time and interest in this widget.

I'd also like to mention that we have Website Translator widget as our Coming Soon one, you can check how it's going to look here - Perhaps that widget could also be of use in this feature realization.

And you're welcome to vote for that widget request in order to get notified once it's released here -

JP, many thanks for your thorough ideas and suggestions - all of them will be definitely considered by our development team.

    Thank you!

Mmm ok, automatically translating the review into the language of the page where it is displayed as Anton suggests would also be an option.

However, that means that as soon as the widget loads on the page, it needs to check the page and translate them with Google translate (or other tool) before it can display them. I see a few problems with that:

    1. reviews will load slow because translating a single review will take 1 tot 2 seconds.

    2. there will be charges for using the Google translation api

    3. translations are not perfect so they will ook unauthentic. You'll have to add 'automatically translated from ...' to solve that.

All in all, I think it's better to filter reviews based on the language tag of the page where they will be shown. Or at least prioritize reviews in that language before you show reviews in other languages.

Hi again Helga. Thank you very much and for clarifying - I guess we have to wait a bit then. Really hope you could get this solved soon (we are open to buy additional widgets - eg where each widget is for a specific language/domain - just great to get it solved). Looking forward to get this implemented (ur services are awesome btw)! Really believe this would be so beneficial for so many etailers not all in on English so one can take advantage of all reviews that are added on Google my bus. All the best / Anton

    Hi Anton!

I've consulted our developers regarding the question you've left and here's what they have to say.

The idea with lang tag does sound good, and we believe we will definitely be able to implement this option. Unfortunately, at the moment there is no way or a workaround to make this happen, I'm really sorry! This is not that easy task and the devs have to do some investigations in order to see what options we have and find the best way to implement this feature.

We will try our best to consider this request and speed up the process, if possible.

Thanks a lot for your comment!

Thank you so much for getting back to us! We checked your comment with our developet but we are a little bit unsure and have a follow up question (see below) from him. Great if you could clarify here. What we want to achieve is to show all reviews translated to localized versions (eg a Swedish review is translated to Finnish on the Finnish domain, a Finnish review stays Finnish on the Finnish domain, etc. Ie no filering). Thanks in advance / Anton

"What we would like to achieve is to show all our reviews in all our localized versions of our web shop, we’re not looking to filter out any reviews. Each localized version is on a separate domain and has a html lang tag identifying the language. Ideally all reviews written in a language other than the language of any given version would be translated to that versions language. So a review written in English would appear not only in our English shop but also in our Swedish shop translated to Swedish, in our Finnish shop translated to Finnish etc.

    Is this possible?"

    How would we achieve this?

Thanks a million for sharing your idea! It might appear to be really useful.

Or, if the language of the review or page cannot be detected automatically, allow to do it manually by showing a list of all reviews in the backend and allow to assign tags to each of them. That way you can manually assign a language tag (or whatever tag you like).

Then add an option to the widget code where you can specify the language for which you want to see the reviews. That way you can make a widget for each language and decide yourself which one you want to see on each page.

    <script src="" defer></script>
    <div lang="nl" class="elfsight-app-aaabcddd-xxxx-yyyy-zzzz-123c45678abc"></div>

Here is an idea, auto detect the (original) language of each review. Then, on the page where the widget is embedded, detect the language of that page. That's easy with the html lang tag.

    <html lang="nl-NL">

Filter the reviews based on that and only show reviews in that language. Maybe add a toggle in the header or next to the load more button to show reviews in all languages.

I wish I were able to set an ETA, Anton!

You know, our dev team do work hard to provide the best service they could, hence everything depends on its overall load.

But rest assured that we are doing the best we can to implement new features to make our widgets more functional :)

    Thank you for your understanding!

    Hello Anton and Charlotta,

Thanks a lot for adding the idea and for your comments!

I also see that it would be much more convenient to have an option to choose a language. We'll try our best to think over this request and include it in one of the nearest updates.

    Thank you for your help!
