We want to use the widget on a church website for the benefit of those who don't particularly like Facebook but have to use it to watch a church's service livestream.

I do see your point and I'm sorry that our widget doesn't support livestreams yet. You see, at the moment our widget is using a server cache of 6 hours which makes livestream support impossible at the moment.
However, we have a similar request so I'm merging your idea with this one - https://wishlist.elfsight.com/ideas/FF-I-21. You'll also get notified about all this feature's updates. And we'll try our best to find a way to make livestreams happen :)
